12/12/16 Table of Contents Template

As well as creating our cover page template, Hannah and I also outlined the way in which we want our table of contents to look. We decided that for the title on the table of contents page we would reuse the font Tempus Sans ITC. For the rest of the writing on the page we also decided on reusing the font Lithos Pro Regular. We want to have a common writing font throughout the magazine. We still are struggling with some disagreement on style choices yet for now this is the best we could construct together. Over the break Hannah and I have also planned on collecting images that we may be able to use as thumbnails for our table of contents. - Hope Bumgarner

12/12/16 Cover Page Template

Today Hannah and I collaborated to create our cover page. We made decisions on font, spacing, and design layout. We used Microsoft Publisher to produce it. We also decided on the name of our magazine. We decided to call our magazine "Athletica" because we focus on sports, athletes, and health. The font we decided on for the cover page magazine name is Lithos Pro Regular and for the rest of the writing on the cover page we used the font Tempus Sans ITC, we are still making decisions on what information to include on the cover page. Over the break Hannah and I are going to take the picture we are going to include on the cover page. Nick will be home from Christmas break so I believe I am going to get a picture of him in his gator attire if possible. - Hope Bumgarner

12/8/16 Project Focus

Today I decided what the focus of my article will be on. I am going to do a column called " A week in the life of a D1 athlete". I have a very good friend Nick Long who is a Division 1 baseball player at the University of Florida. After speaking with him about my idea, he agreed to allow me interview him and have an inside scoop to what its like to be a D1 college athlete. He is a freshman this year so I will have him explain how hard the change was from high school athlete to college athlete. I will focus on the intensity of the workouts, while also including a view at his whole schedule. In doing so, we will be able to assess the time management he must use in order to be successful. Nick is and always has been a very focused hard working athlete so I believe this will be a very interesting article. Nick verbally committed to the University of Florida the summer of his sophomore year so it will be exciting to hear if the life he has been eagerly waiting for is all he thought it was going to be. - Hope Bumgarner

11/17/16 Project Decision

I have decided to partner with Hannah Shiffner to create a sports and diet magazine for our project. As a varsity and competitive athlete I know a lot about sports and the time and energy that goes in to creating a successful team. I do Varsity weightlifting, track, and cheer, while I also cheer competitively. One very important factor that goes in to being successful in my sports is eating healthy and having a precise workout plan. Hannah is going to focus on the diet section while I am focusing on the sports themselves. I will be interviewing athletes of many different sports, asking them about their workouts and how their teams work to become successful. I am considering doing a column called "A Week in the Life of an Athlete" in which I will pick one sport and follow one of the athletes around all week while experiencing their diet and workout plan for that week to get an inside scoop into the life of an athlete of that specific sport. My project will be unique from other sport and diet magazine because along with getting insight from the nutritionists and coaches I will be pairing up with an actual current athlete. Sarasota Florida is home to many great programs for athletics and it is only a few miles away from the prestigious IMG Academy which is a boarding school for great athletes. I cheered for IMG my 8th grade year and meet some of the athletes that go there and their life is extremely intense. This magazine will be very attractive so kids all around this area of Florida because majority of the kids participate in at least one sport. When distributing my project, I would aim to have it sold out of different sporting stores like Soccer Line, Fit to Run, etc. as well as healthy eat places such as the Fit to Run juice bar, Green Zebra, Smoothie King, etc. I believe this project will be very successful because Hannah and I are both very athletic and interested in this subject! - Hope Bumgarner

11/15/16 Film Project?

Throughout my experiences with film making, I believe the film project option could work very well for me. I am a very outgoing, talkative girl so I would have no problem staring in a film. Also, I am certified in computer software so the editing process shouldn't be to hard for me to accomplish. While the film making task seems like the more fun option of the two projects, I believe it could present more problems than the magazine option. Throughout my recent research, I have learned of the many problems that film makers have encountered while creating a film. In class we watched "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and then continued to watch the Inside Story of the film. In this, it outlined the problems faced while shooting. They encountered injury, collection of too much film, falling behind schedule, unhappy female response, etc. The crew described the process as very difficult. The director himself left before finishing the film to move onto his next film. While the final product may end up great, there is a large amount of effort need to create such a great film. When comparing the two tasks, it seems that the magazine project may flow more smoothly. I am still undecided on which project I will take on because I believe the video will be more fun, while the magazine will be easier to accomplish. - Hope Bumgarner

10/31/16 Magazine Project?

The Magazine project may be a good option for me. I have always been a good writer and have gotten great scores on all essays I have written. I have an extensive background in writing articles because I am involved in writing the newspaper for my school. Since journalists have to collect large amounts of research before writing an article, this may be the project for me because my research skills have been polished due to taking Journalism, AICE Global Perspectives, and AICE General Paper. Since I live in Sarasota Florida, it should be easy to gather information on tourism. Also, Sarasota offers a lot of beautiful scenery that could be useful when gathering original pictures for this project. On the other hand, I feel as though the tourism magazine has already been outdone. If I were to do the magazine project I would want to pick a more original idea, but I may be limited on the topics I have to write about. Sarasota is most known for its tourism hot spots. Also, it may be harder for me to do the magazine project because I am limited in my creative editing skills. This could cause my magazine to be more plain and not score as well as others will. I still have a lot of thinking to do before I decide on which project I will complete. - Hope Bumgarner
